Wow...what a wierd story! The movie is beautiful but heartbreaking. Brooke and I both thought that Brad Pitt's face maintained a few too many wrinkles toward the end of the film, and Brooke doesn't like Cate Blanchett. I suppose my biggest complaint was that not even a passing effort was made, by either the filmmakers or the characters themselves, to explain why the "curious case" existed in the first place. (The clock that ran backwards was totally disconnected from the story's events--or did I miss something?) I thought the running time was necessary; by the end, you really feel as though you've experienced Benjamin and Daisy's life right alongside them. The best part of the film might be not the curiousness of the story, but the curiosity with which Benjamin seems to look at the world throughout his strange life. Brad Pitt, young or old, always seems to have a flash of wonder in his eyes here.
Is this the best movie made in 2008?
