The Lincoln Lawyer

What makes The Lincoln Lawyer noteworthy is Matthew McConaughey's convincing and subtle performance as Mick Haller, a normally easy-going L.A. defense attorney whose office is the back seat of an old Town Car and who suddenly finds himself in the midst of a very dangerous and perplexing situation. A departure from his usual silly and forgettable fare, McConaughey passes this test with flying colors. Mr. Haller spends most of the movie weaving together a twisted series of clues, attempting to make things right, so to speak, with everybody from his own family to a former client to the justice system generally. It's a straightforward but very entertaining courtroom drama. Mr. McConaughey also benefits from a better-than-average supporting cast: Marisa Tomei, William H. Macy, Ryan Philippe, John Leguizamo, Josh Lucas, and so on.
